Malcolm Furlow

Malcolm Furlow is one of the foremost artists in the Southwest today. He is known in the art world for his colorful paintings with southwestern themes, which are in many private collections as well as corporate ones. He has shown his work in Paris and Beijing and throughout the United States.
Educated at the University of Texas in Austin, he was inspired by the work of Fritz Scholder and Delona Roberts, both artists who were a major influence in southwest art. Furlow often portrays the wildlife and people of his region, but he occasionally paints portraits of people who have been major influences on American life, such as Albert Einstein and Jimi Hendrix.
Malcolm is also a leading figure in the field of model making, most likely because he approaches each of his projects as an artist rather than as a craftsman or engineer. He has given speeches on the subject and has been written up in periodicals in many parts of the world. His biggest model to date is a miniature replica of the Grand Canyon, created as a commission for the lobby of the Children’s Medical Hospital in Dallas, TX.
Malcolm’s extensive studio facilities are set amid the spectacular scenery on his ranch in Northern New Mexico. He spends a great deal of time on his ranch, raising cattle and horses, working with the stock, and taking guests on trail rides. “I’ve cowboyed through my life,” says Malcolm, and that statement captures his identity of being an artist who exemplifies the spirit of the west.
His hallmarks are electrifying colors, vibrant portraiture, and masterfully constructed scenes borne from both introspection and retrospect – Malcolm’s prolific body of work continues to earn critical acclaim around the world. Overwhelmingly considered a living legend, the master painter remains a significant figure in the fabric of the American Southwest.
With several lifetimes of diverse experience under his belt, Malcolm Furlow "walks the walk and talks the talk" synonymous with his legendary stature. A recently filmed documentary entitled the "Life and Art of Malcolm Furlow," refers to him as a "Renaissance Man": the quintessential cowboy, musician, and intellectual artist. He is an award-winning painter, whose accolades include the Silver award from the Sorbonne, and the highly coveted Gold Award from the world-renown Luxembourg Museum, Paris. As of spring 2006, Furlow has "sold-out" over fifty solo shows.
Malcolm Furlow's paintings command principal placement in exhibitions, philanthropist campaigns, and private collections around the world, including the U.S. Embassies of Morocco, Belgium and Beijing; the White House; CEO Magazine; The Smithsonian; Mobil Oil; Arnold Schwarzenegger; Samuel Goldwyn; Richard Pryor; Presidents George H.W.
