Katherine McNeill, a dedicated artist best known for her exquisite, vibrant lively oil portraits in vivid settings, from the outdoors with aspen trees and majestic mountains to splashing seascapes, floral paintings, as well as family homes/estates, also a portrait artist, she is a member of the American Society of Portrait Artists of America.

Katherine best known for her vibrant aspen and mountain paintings can make you feel and smell the mountain air as though you were walking through the forest and feel the crunch of the quaking aspens on the ground, as you loose yourself in her realistic paintings. Using many colors to paint her aspens, she can take all the surrounding colors and make them unbelievably realistic. Taking upwards to an hour and a half to paint one aspen tree she uses light and shadow exquisitely. Katherine can make you lose yourself in her paintings, which at times gives a beautiful mystical feeling to them. Every once in awhile, you will even discover an angel hidden ever so delicately in the trees, or maybe even discretely in the clouds.

Born in Vancouver, B.C. Canada she moved to the United States in 1951. Katherine’s love for art started at a young age. She began winning competitions for her artistic qualities at age nine. She enjoys making everything she works on a masterpiece to behold.

Katherine is mainly a “self taught” artist. She has had the privilege to study under such notables as Lloyd Thorsten and the late Mickey McGuire. The 19th century landscape artists Moran and Bierstadt have also been a major influence along with portrait artists Michelangelo and John Singer Sargent. She has studied at the Colorado Institute of Art and the Art’s Student League of Denver. Katherine also has taught adult and children classes.

She and her husband travel extensively throughout the mountain states and Europe backpacking and hiking to remote areas to obtain material for landscapes. Her paintings are reflective of realism and existing scenes. Light and its unique qualities are the most exciting of natural phenomena, as Katherine recreates this excitement with paint onto canvas, it makes her paintings alive and vibrant.

Her work has been featured in prestigious art exhibitions. Currently, her paintings are being collected nationally and internationally.
